Behavioral Health Tech

Compensation: $18.13 to $21.75 per hour

Location: Bremerton, WA

Shift: Full-Time (32 hours a week) Sunday to Wednesday

General Summary of Duties : The Behavioral Health Technician provides ongoing assistance to clients in 24/7 Services while maintaining a safe and therapeutic work environment. To act appropriately in assisting clients in meeting their daily basic needs for health and safety. To assist in meeting client treatment objectives as directed by the treatment team. To provide appropriate documentation as required by KMHS policies and procedures. To support behavioral tech level staff coverage across the 24/7 Recovery Services department including Adult Inpatient Unit (AIU), Youth Inpatient Unit (YIU), Crisis Triage Center (CTC), Pacific Hope and Recovery Center (PHRC), and Residential Services (RS).
The Behavioral Health Technician assists in the operations of KMHS in support of its stated mission and provides the highest level of customer service to internal and external customers.

Major Responsibilities/Tasks :
Take appropriate measures to meet client’s daily basic needs for health and safety, including but not limited to the following tasks:
Prepare and serve meals,
Conduct safety checks of the units,
Monitor clients according to the assigned levels of observation,
Provide transportation as directed by a supervisor,
Assist in maintaining a clean work environment,
Assist in maintaining a sufficient inventory of food and non-food items, and
Other duties as assigned by a supervisor.
Complete all required electronic and paper charting, documentation, and data entry of clients as outlined in the appropriate KMHS guidelines, manuals, policies, and procedures.
Participate in clinical activities as directed by a supervisor including but not limited to:
Facilitate approved group activities
Conduct ongoing observation and assessment of client mental status during each shift,
Record client nutritional intake, sleep, and vitals,
Run treatment groups on shift
Take referrals appropriately
Follow specific behavioral protocols for clients as directed by a supervisor, and
Other clinical activities as directed by a supervisor.
Complete all paperwork involved in providing direct client care including but not limited to:
Paperwork relating to admission and discharge,
Confidentiality,
Client rights,
Client inventories,
Tracking sheets, and
Other forms as needed
Attend all mandatory training on time and as scheduled.
Keep current on all required documentation (i.e., food handlers permit, counselor licenses, etc.).

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications :

EXPERIENCE: Entry level (no prior related work experience)
Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle report.
Valid Washington Food Handler card.

LICENSURE: Agency Affiliated Counselor Registration
Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19

Preferred Qualifications:

EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED

EXPERIENCE: Experienced (minimum 2 years of job-related experience)
Relevant experience working with clients with severe and persistent mental illness.
Capacity to work well with children and families.

Mental/Physical Requirements :
Ability to maintain audio and visual observation at all times.
Ability to stand and be mobile for long periods of time.
Ability to bend, twist, reach, hold and lift as needed to successfully evade and/or participate in protective holds against client weight (40 -250lbs).
Ability to lift and carry items up to 50 pounds.
Ability to remain calm and utilize safety training in potentially assaultive client interactions.
Ability to move quickly and confidently to assist or intervene when needed in potentially stressful situations.
Successful completion of safety training, which includes demonstration of ability to: maintain balance, torso twist, forward bend, pivot, sidestep, forward and backward step, crouch, move to secure limb, knee touch to ground, kneel, get up from floor sitting or kneeling position.
