Description :
AECOM is seeking an experienced Project Biologist/Ecologist in our Seattle, WA office. This is an exciting opportunity to work on some of the region’s most important and interesting projects. The ideal candidate is an experienced biologist looking for greater opportunities to serve as a Task Leader, Lead Biologist, or Deputy Project Manager. This person will join an established natural resource consultancy practice, which includes experts in wildlife, botany, vegetation ecology, restoration, fisheries, and climate adaptation. Primary duties include preparing Endangered Species Act (ESA) and Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA) compliance documentation and environmental permitting applications; conducting biological surveys; and related electronic data collection. Experience conducting general surveys for avian (including nests), mammal, fish, and invertebrate species, and/or experience conducting wildlife habitat and vegetation characterization and mapping is desired.

The responsibilities of this position may include, but are not limited to, those listed below:
+ Perform assignments that require a background in wildlife and aquatic ecology and/or other ecological processes.
+ Conduct writing assignments, including completing survey reports, Biological Technical Reports, Biological Assessments, MMPA compliance documents (IHA, LOA), and/or EIS/EA sections.
+ Conduct biological survey fieldwork in a variety of Pacific Northwest environments, which can include multiple days of travel and/or working in rugged terrain and inclement weather.
+ Utilize electronic data collection methods (including GPS) and manage data, as needed.
+ Support proposal efforts.
+ Work under the supervision of a senior project manager or senior-level team member.
+ The ability to work independently and as part of a team; be innovative and a problem solver.
+ Ensure assigned tasks stay on schedule and budget.

Minimum Requirements
+ Bachelor’s Degree in related field (biology, ecology, etc.) and a minimum of 4 years of experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and or education.
+ Valid U.S. driver’s license required and must be able to safely drive to job sites.
+ Willing to travel to job sites throughout Pacific Northwest and occasionally work long hours.
+ Perform field work as required
+ U.S. Citizenship is required for this role
Preferred Qualifications
+ 6+ years of consulting experience is preferred, but non-consultant candidates with relevant experience will be considered.
+ The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in terrestrial and aquatic biology, field experience with special status species of Pacific Northwest and/or Alaska, and knowledge of regulatory requirements.
+ Experience conducting biological field surveys and evaluating habitat types
+ Experience conducting research and performing in-depth literature reviews
+ Experience serving as the lead author for technical reports or studies
+ Experience and understanding of Endangered Species Act, Magnuson-Stevens Act, Marine Mammal Protection Act, Migratory Bird Treaty Act, Bald and Golden Eagle Act, and other regulatory processes.
+ Experience obtaining permits and working with regulatory agencies, such as the USFWS, NMFS, USACE, and WDFW.
+ Marine mammal field experience.
