Compensation and Benefits Details:
Compensation:
· Start at $15/hour, raise to $17 after completing 500 hours (we consider this the probationary period where you receive on-the-job training).
· Further raises are awarded based on merit and performance.
· There is room for advancement. If applicable, managerial options will be presented to you including the new job description/expectations and added responsibilities and pay scale.
· We award annual bonuses in December based on hours worked that year.
Benefits:
· FT employees are eligible to join our employer-sponsored ($200/month paid as $100 per pay period) health insurance plan once reaching 900 hours. If the employee elects to decline health insurance, we will instead offer a $1.15 raise (this rate is for FT. PT is scaled according to average weekly hours).
· Paid time off is offered when the employee reaches 1100 hours, accruing 8 hours PTO for every 200 hours worked (applies to FT and PT employees).
· Employees are offered an employee discount of 50% off Circuit Breaker Labs products and 20% off all other merchandise.
Job Location:
· Studio facility in Capitol Heights, MD, Studio/Store at 1759 Columbia Rd NW, Washington, DC 20009, and various locations around the DMV
Job Schedule:
· Studio Hours are 9am-7pm Monday-Friday but you will be required to work a maximum of two full weekends (Fri-Sun) per month at event site (more weekends beyond that are at your discretion). You may set your schedule when you are working in the studio, but event hours are set by the event and cannot be changed.
· You cannot go over 40 hours per week without permission. We do not close for holidays other than Christmas and Thanksgiving.
· Days off (PTO or unpaid) are at your discretion with notice.
Job Description:
· Report to Event Manager for event scheduling and planning. What you’re asked to do may include, but is not limited to:
· Pack event materials ahead of time
· Drive personal vehicle to event site
· Pack personal vehicle with event materials, set up, and tear down booth at event location according to event requirements
· Interact with customers, ring up customers, and package their purchases
· Track event inventory and replenish as needed
· Communicate inventory needs with event manager and/or studio manager
· Conduct event material inventories & place order requests with managers
· Sorting/organizing materials and products
· Cleaning/tidying the studio according to schedule
· Perform quality control inspections
· Prepare products for show sales (boxing, tagging, etc)
· Maintain display equipment; inventory for sale
· Become familiar with topics pertaining to the products you’re selling (simple science facts, information about the products we make in-house, etc. Current event employees do not have science backgrounds and do just fine)
· Assist owner, managers, and other colleagues with various simple, routine tasks as necessary (this will include some production work so that you can become familiar with how we make products; this makes it easier when talking to customers since it will come from your own experience)
· From time to time you may be asked to run register in the retail store, co-located with the studio
Candidate must:
· Be able to successfully follow direction, as well as manage tasks and responsibilities with a minimum of supervision
· Offer kind and helpful customer service to our customers
· Be able to improvise and think quickly on feet
· Be able to work occasional long days, be able to lift and maneuver display equipment (up to 50lbs that might include tents, tables and shelving units)
· Adhere to attendance schedule & communicate changes promptly and clearly
Qualifications:
· No formal skills/experience are required for the job; training is provided. BUT if you have appropriate skills that would make you an outstanding candidate, please bring them to our attention.
· Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills
· A background in art, craft, or science is ideal, as is retail experience
