THE POSITION

Then join the Department of Conservation and Natural Resource’s Elk State Forest and perform a variety of technical forestry assignments in the areas of timber sales, fire prevention, insect and disease control and recreation projects. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position provides technical support and assistance for forestry staff responsible for the sustainability of the forest resource on the Elk State Forest. This position collects GPS field data and prepares maps based on data collected; provides GPS survey data and delineates State Forest Timber Sale boundaries, herbicide spray blocks and planting sites; obtains timber volumes by marking and/or cruising; conducts surveys and prepares resource inventory and land-use maps; and assist District Forest Pest Management Coordinator with surveillance flights, ground checking and control programs. Duties also include assisting with the implementation and maintenance of recreation projects; assisting with deer fence construction and maintenance, tree planting, timber marking, herbicide application and wildlife habitat management; and assisting with forest fire prevention, pre-suppression and suppression activities. Additional information regarding the duties of this position can be found in the position description. Work Schedule and Additional Information:

This is a seasonal, full-time position without benefits. The season runs from approximately March until November at which the employee is placed on leave without pay.
Work hours are Week 1: (Mon – Thurs) 7:00am – 4:15pm; (Fri) OFF, Week 2: (Mon – Fri) 7:00am – 3:30pm.
Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

An associate’s degree in forest technology; or
Completion of equivalent formal education in forestry.

Conditions of Employment:

This position requires possession of a valid PA non-commercial Class C driver’s license or equivalent.

Other Requirements:

PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
You must be able to perform essential job functions.
This position is subject to the promotion provisions of a collective bargaining agreement or memorandum of understanding.

You must be eligible for selection in accordance with merit system employment regulations.
