MOLLY MOON’S ICE CREAM CHEF – COLUMBIA CITY
A Molly Moon’s Chef is responsible for all aspects of running a clean, fun, and efficient kitchen including production, hiring and training, ensuring quality and safe food handling, researching and developing new flavors in collaboration with the Head Chef, and reviewing and managing their shop’s financial performance. Kitchen production and management experience is required for this position. The Chef is responsible for partnering with their Shop Manager to meet their shop’s financial, cultural and food safety goals.
The Columbia City Chef reports to the Head Chef and leads their kitchen team in the execution of Molly Moon’s mission to make the world better, one scoop at a time, as a multigenerational community gathering place where ice cream, sustainability, and happiness are at the core of all we do. RESPONSIBILITIES

Model production efficiency and quality standards and support their team to meet expectations

Accurately follow recipes including scaling up or down appropriately for production needs
Consistently produce between 32 and 64 + tubs of fresh ice cream each shift
Taste all products made and assess flavor and texture – trouble shoot any product that deviates from standard
Properly label, date, pack, and store up to 1000 pints of ice cream each day
Rotate product following the principals of FIFO
Prepare ingredients and produce homemade bases, toppings, and inclusions such as hot fudge, lemon curd, cookie dough, caramel sauces, fruit compotes, baked items, etc.

Model health, safety and sanitation guidelines and hold all employees accountable for maintaining those standards
Accurately inventory tubs, pints, toppings, and bases to create production plans and lead team to accomplish production needed to support sales
Model all company policies including taking rest breaks and following leave procedures
Manage inventory and order ingredients and supplies to meet production needs
Hire, train, manage, and support ice cream makers on all kitchen production procedures and kitchen policies

provide direction, feedback and coaching in a timely way to develop employees production skills and support their professional development

Effectively problem solve issues including but not limited to staffing, production, equipment failure, and other shop issues
Manage the kitchen to budget goals, including cost of goods sold and scheduling to budgeted payroll percentage
Actively participate in business analysis; recommend and execute strategic changes
Participate in leadership and planning meetings as needed
Communicate clearly, effectively, and respectfully with all members of our team including all departments and locations in a professional and friendly manner
Participate and contribute in meetings and discussions concerning product development, company-wide initiatives, and special projects
Self-manage long-term projects such as new flavor recipe development
Keep kitchen areas professional, clean, and organized
Be able and willing to go above and beyond when the kitchen and shop demands
Contribute to Molly Moon’s goals for increasing sales and creating loyal customers
Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Culinary degree required or 5 years of pastry, candy or frozen dessert experience
Internal applicants are eligible to apply if they have completed the Ice Cream Maker to Chef Career Pathway
Experience managing multiple employees
Knowledge and passion for food, cooking, and quality
Ability to work independently while also being a dedicated and collaborative team player
Ability to stand eight hours, lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly, and work in a freezer environment for up to 20 minutes at a time
Willingness to learn and follow instructions with precision as well as give great attention to detail
Strong time management skills and flexible attitude for changing plans to maximize productivity
Have great communication skills and a professional, friendly attitude
Be available full time between 32 and 40 hours per week. A willingness to pick up shifts in other locations on occasion preferred
Experience with Microsoft software, Google and Apple products
Washington State food handler’s permit is required

COMPENSATION

$31.25/hour starting wage with incremental, merit-based raises
15 days accrued PTO per year, 16 hours front loaded at start date for new hires
Between May 1 and Sept 31 vacations may not exceed 10 days. Vacations are subject to manager approval based on shift coverage, staffing, and business need
In the winter months between Oct 1 and April 30 vacations may not exceed 21 days. Vacations are subject to manager approval based on shift coverage, staffing, and business need
Zero premium, high-quality medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees (and their dependents) that work at least 20 hours per week on average over a period of 6 weeks. New Chefs are eligible for health insurance on the day they begin working for Molly Moon’s. A spouse may be insured on company plan at employee’s expense. Molly Moon’s pays 100% of premium for qualifying employees and their children. That means it’s free!
Supplemental paid family leave benefits for employees who qualify for and receive PFML. Molly Moon’s will pay the difference between the paid PFML benefit and 100% of an employee’s regular hourly earnings for the duration of your ESD approved leave up to a maximum of 18 weeks
401k with employer match of 1% in the first year of participation, 2% year 2, and 3% year three. Employees are eligible for 401k participation when they have worked at Molly Moon’s for 12 consecutive months.
