Job Description:
General Summary: The IT Project Manager leads technology related projects for the university and enacts organizational change through project outcomes. The role includes leading diverse project teams, aligning stakeholders, communicating project status, assessing risks/outcomes, and working with management and administration to ensure the scope and direction meet business needs. The ideal candidate can build and maintain strong working relationships with customers throughout the organization.
Job Duties:
Project Management
Lead the planning, review, and execution of the university technology projects. Take ownership of project scope, meetings, schedules, milestones, dependencies, risk assessment & mitigation, etc. while working with cross-functional teams, and proactively identifying and resolving roadblocks. Lead project teams in setting schedules and expectations while balancing technical & business requirements, stakeholder needs, and project constraints. Ensure open communication across project teams. Maintain and revise project management methodologies within IT.
Business Systems Analysis
Build and maintain positive, constructive partnering relationships with diverse business units and have a deep understanding of their work environment, strategic goals, and data systems. Maintain expertise in SPU’s enterprise software portfolio for application to business processes across campus. Translate business needs into functional and technical requirements, utilizing industry standard documentation tools and practices.
Change Management
Manage the changes within projects and the organizational changes caused by project outcomes. Transition resources, individuals and business processes impacted by projects. Communicate project outcome changes required by agreed upon changes to project scope. Maintain process improvement, communication, change management and stakeholder management throughout all projects managed.
Enterprise Software Systems
Take a lead role in the selection, planning, implementation, support, maintenance, documentation, security and lifecycle management of enterprise technology systems. Administrate enterprise software systems and communicate technology changes to campus stakeholders. Maintain institutional data integrity and assist with business intelligence/reporting.
Documentation, Policies and Procedures
Create and manage documentation, policy and appropriate procedures necessary to: uphold standards, communicate best practices, and sustain ongoing IT operations. Document and promote effective project management best practices. Facilitate training for new system implementations.
Software and System Security
Enforce policies and security measures to safeguard organizational information against accidental or unauthorized damage, modification or disclosure. Control data system access permissions and privileges. Maintain working knowledge of current security and privacy issues, regulations and policies related to data and enterprise systems.
Continuous Improvement
Stay current with project management and industry best practices, tools, technologies and methodologies. Incorporate new knowledge and ideas into project management operations, university strategy, policy and standards.
Job Requirements:
BS/BA degree in Business, Communications, Computer Science, Information Systems, related field, or equivalent expertise.
Experience managing multiple simultaneous projects.
2+ years of experience with Project Management.
Knowledgeable about project management best practices.
Strong interpersonal skills including meeting facilitation, leading project teams, and problem resolution/mediation.
Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
Confident decision-maker able to manage competing priorities.
Demonstrated problem solving, critical thinking and organizational skills.
Self-starter who has the internal motivation to initiate positive organizational change.
Excellent Microsoft Office skills, familiarity with project management and work tracking tools.
Familiarity with enterprise data systems and their operation and/or administration.
Understanding of data flows, integrations, and data structures.
Preferred Qualifications:
MBA, MIS or similar.
Knowledgeable about the Higher Education environment.
Familiarity with Atlassian Jira, Confluence and/or Jira Service Desk.
Strong understanding of SQL and demonstrated ability to author queries.
Experience in software development and ability to parse code.
Familiarity with agile development methodologies.
Additional Information:
Position will remain open until filled.
Salary: $70,000 – $90,000 DOE
This is a full time position with excellent benefits. SPU pays the employee premium for medical, dental, and vision insurance.
