Description :
Duties

Provides patient screening to adult workers ages 18-80.
Reviews all pertinent data and determines requirements for ancillary testing and program placement.
Evaluates patients for referral to nurse or physician.
Performs various screenings, such as vision, vital signs, spirometry, audiometry, and electrocardiograms {EKGs) and reviews results for completeness and accuracy.
Refers abnormal vital signs, vision screenings, EKGs, audiometry and spirometry results to an Occupational Health Nurse {OHN) or provider for evaluation per clinic standard operating procedures.
Verifies and orders all indicated laboratory studies, x-rays, immunizations, and other ancillary tests as appropriate.
Counsels patients regarding test results, health promotion topics and workplace health hazards.

This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment
The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs.
Appointment to this position is subject to a two year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross.
This position is subject to screening and update of required immunizations unless exempted for medical or administrative reasons.
This position requires the incumbent to obtain Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation (CAOHC).
This position requires the incumbent to obtain The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) Pulmonary Function Testing.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. To Qualify for the GS-05:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing receptionist duties and performing a variety of clerical work, scheduling appointments, and providing miscellaneous administrative services to support the department. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level in the federal service (GS-04).

OR

Education: Four-year course of study leading to a bachelor’s degree. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then, divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

To Qualify for the GS-06:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting in the performance of audio logical examinations, test and evaluations to include pulmonary function and performing occupational health assessments in a Medical Treatment Facility. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

OR

Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as audiology, speech pathology, and other hearing sciences. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then, divide your semester hours of graduate education by 9. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

To Qualify for the GS-07:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes reviewing medical histories; conducting several occupational health tests to include audio grams, spirometry, vision screening, electrocardiograms, and taking vital signs; operating an automated records system and providing medical counseling or education to patients. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

OR

Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as audiology, speech pathology, and other hearing sciences. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.

NOTE: This is a developmental position. Non-competitive promotion to the next grade level within the line of progression may not be made until the full performance grade is reached (GS-07). Management may select at any grade level announced: GS-05, GS-06, or GS-07.
