We are seeking an experienced risk and compliance professional to join our cross-functional collective of technical, compliance, legal, and program management experts. We are driving a multi-year initiative to develop compliance frameworks that will enable us to automate requirement gathering, standardize technical compliance controls, and develop continuous compliance monitoring. We are currently focused on laws, regulations, policies and other obligations impacting Amazon employees, candidates, and contingent workers in the global geographies where Amazon operates. To do this work, you will engage with peers in risk, compliance, legal, operations, and technical teams, as well as senior leaders across HR and the wider enterprise to ensure adequate risk management at-scale. You will be responsible for consulting with key stakeholders to drive alignment at both the strategic and tactical level. The right person will demonstrate proven experience: delivering multiple, high priority projects at the same time; managing stakeholders with different perspectives, including influencing without authority; identifying opportunities for process simplification; creation of program- and customer-facing references; inventorying sources for compliance requirement input; defining and executing communication and change management plans; evaluating control effectiveness; and synthesizing diverse data to identify patterns, draw conclusions, and prioritize remediation efforts, using risk management concepts. The successful candidate leverages their background in risk, compliance, compliance automation and/or HR to mature services and technologies’ ability to meet growing compliance demands. They are highly independent and organized; ably build trusting relationships with stakeholders at various levels; adapt quickly to changing demands; and demonstrate critical inquiry, attention to details, and the ability to effectively articulate recommendations/conclusions verbally and in writing. Up to 25% travel, including international destinations Employees must reside within a commutable distance from the office they are assigned to but have the flexibility to regularly work from home, as well as, from the office. Office locations include: Seattle, WA; Boston, MA; Arlington, VA. Relocation assistance is available and flexibility may exist for full-time remote work. Key job responsibilities Execute an enterprise-wide, multi-year compliance automation initiative. Consult with global technology, legal, finance, benefits, operations, trade, IT, information security, and HR policy, process, and system owners to ensure that sound protocols are in place to mitigate risks. Monitor known and emerging risks, measure internal control effectiveness, and develop and own action items to remediate identified risk issues. Develop deep knowledge of HR compliance and HR mechanisms, processes, and technologies utilized by Amazon. Consult on the development of business requirements for new system implementations and enhancements. Draft written narratives to communicate obligations, risk analyses, and recommendations. Conduct on-site and virtual risk control assessments, documenting methodology, results, and remediation plans. Prepare other supporting documentation such as manager and employee communications, FAQs, and standard operating processes. Respond to questions and troubleshoot issues. Manage other HR risk and compliance related projects as needs arise.
Experience with GDPR, CCPA, LGPD, India’s PDP, German Works Councils and other privacy regulations
2+ years of experience in an HR technology, compliance, or risk management role
Advanced degree in a related area (MBA or JD)
Experience working in a global, large-scale, complex, and fast-paced environment
Ability to work in an ambiguous environment and drive forward results
Problem solver, able to troubleshoot issues independently or escalate when necessary; sense of accountability and sound professional judgment
Proven analytical capabilities; experience with large amounts of data and in developing audit reports, metrics, and reporting mechanisms
Experience defining technical requirements and specifications, writing policy, and adapting requirements to technical and business needs
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
