We are looking for an experienced Software Development Engineer-Test to help build our next-generation of performance and tooling to make sure we have the world class experience that our customers expect. These new capabilities will allow for integrating the Alexa app more deeply with the capabilities that are provided by iOS, Android, and FireOS as well as expand strategic in-app features like search to ensure customers get the content they care about, faster. Our long term vision, is for Alexa to be the best and most convenient digital assistant on the devices that customers use the most. In this role, you will own our testing strategy and infrastructure to bring the Alexa app to more devices types and integrate her into the existing device types. This role will work closely with teams from all across Alexa, including Alexa Voice Services, Smart Home, Fire Tablets, Music, Device Settings, and many more. With a dedicated performance and tooling team, you will be empowered to help build our roadmap that brings our long term vision to reality. Which includes envisioning how our tooling is deployed around the world to validate, test hypothesis, and ultimately raise the bar of the Alexa app. As a Software Development Engineer-Test for Alexa Mobile, you will have an enormous opportunity to impact the customer experience, raise the bar on performance, impact architecture design, and implementation of cutting-edge products and services. You will own the infrastructure, tooling, and performance testing and validation of the app, and collaborate with the app engineers to develop and launch features. Key job responsibilities • Development of the testing platform that is used by Alexa Mobile and partner teams in the development, testing, and validation of the app • Collaborating with development teams and your team peers to identify and prioritize opportunities for automation. • Define and gather the necessary metrics to collect across deployment pipelines to make the production release more predictable • Define tasks, priorities, methods of measurement and track their execution across work streams • Work closely with engineering teams and designers to deliver automation and tooling to support the app development A day in the life The ideal candidate has a solid understanding of the software development process, a demonstrated track record of delivering successful automation platforms on behalf of the teams they support. They don’t need to have expertise in NLU (natural language understanding), or machine learning but should be curious. They value collaboration, data-driven decision making, learning, and can comfortably work with their engineering peers, in both their team and the app team. In this role, you will be on constant lookout for how you can use production data to inform testing platform strategies that will make the production releases more predictable, and keep repeating this cycle to improve the performance and tooling used by the Alexa Mobile org and their parter teams in Alexa. About the team You will be joining a team of product, program, and engineering professionals focused the development of the Alexa app that is deployed to the Apple, Google, and Amazon App Stores currently. Experience with creating testing strategies for mobile apps
Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and management to collect requirements, evaluate alternatives and develop processes and tools as needed to support the organization.
Experience developing in a Linux environment and in utilizing virtual machines
Knowledge of industry standard Mobile test automation tools and experience in developing product test harnesses and instrumenting products to gather test results
Experience with test driven development and establishing unit test infrastructures
Experience automating the validating of modern user interfaces and messaging infrastructures
Experience with evaluating and integrating open source and in house developed toolsets
Excellent communication skills and the ability to generate and communicate meaningful development metrics
Expert in software quality and testing methodologies
Comfortable working in a fast paced, highly collaborative, dynamic work environment
Experienced in interacting and coordinating test activities amongst multiple teams
