POSITION: 1.0 FTE TEACHER ON SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT
ASSIGNMENT: SOCIAL EMOTIONAL SUPPORT SPECIALIST
Please note: Per the CEA bargaining agreement, this is a restricted position. Those wishing to transfer must currently hold the same position (i.e., Social Emotional Support TOSA to Social Emotional Support TOSA). Employees not currently holding the same position and seeking transfer into the restricted positions must apply and will be guaranteed an interview with out-of-district candidates.
SUPERVISOR: ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF TEACHING AND LEARNING
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must hold or qualify for a Washington ESA certificate with an endorsement in school counseling or school social work, or a Washington teaching certificate.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Collaborates with certificated and para-educator staff to implement evidence-based, effective instructional and intervention practices, strategies and services in social emotional learning and student behaviors.
Provide ongoing, job-embedded coaching and professional development for teaching/intervention teams, engaging them in activities such as observing, modeling, conferencing, co-teaching, and leading professional development to more effectively serve students.
Conducts needs assessments, develops professional development, and evaluates the impact of social emotional learning and how it affects student learning.
Continuously deepens knowledge and expertise related to, Tier one and tier 2 instruction and intervention related to social emotional learning (ex. Zones of Regulation, Morning Meetings, etc).
Supports buildings and district regarding the required federal and state guidance for Title I and LAP, assisting with the analysis of data, and monitoring district/building progress towards our social emotional goals.
Review of current adoption and supplemental materials and to select and recommend the use of specific materials by classroom teachers to meet the needs of all students.
Serve as a consultant to staff members by modeling/demonstrating effective instructional practices, demonstrating appropriate classroom strategies, providing timely feedback, and facilitating reflective conversation.
Knowledge and experience with instructional coaching and mentoring with adults and in small groups.
Support continued implementation of K-12 In School Intervention system that includes interventions designed to reduce the likelihood of future misbehaviors, restore relationships, and provide clear communication in support of improved behaviors.
Demonstrate effective communication and personal relationship skills.
Demonstrate skill in providing leadership, building capacity in others and facilitating instructional change.
Actively participate in district and building Professional Learning Communities (PLCs).
Promote the involvement of parents/guardians of children in their educational program by providing staff with ideas and resources so they may better support parents.
Provide guidance for student program delivery with staff to provide successful inclusion programs that follow state and federal rules and regulations.
Possess a passion for teaching, learning and supporting students’ social emotional learning.
Relate positively to youth and adults of varying socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic backgrounds, different learning styles and various disabilities.
Demonstrate proficiency with the effective use of technology for administrative functions and student learning.
Demonstrate excellent time management and organizational skills.
Maintain appropriate and required student and program documentation.
Perform other duties as assigned.
